Why do I use the word ‘fascinating’ in this short blog post?
Fascinating Esri-DigitalGlobe Announcement
We have long pointed at data as a key barrier for GIS users. We wrote about it in today’s blog post: Biggest challenge for GIS? Gathering, cleaning, constructing, combining, calculating, publishing. That’s an important part of our work to help organizations solve problems with GIS. Why I find this announcement fascinating is because it plugs petabytes of DigitalGlobe data directly into ArcGIS. Plus very powerful analytics capabilities.
I’ll always argue against GIS being described as ‘self-service’. But making available this quantity of data and this quality of analytics, to those who understand the technology, is potentially of huge significance.
